Frequently Asked Questions

How are funds distributed in Myanmar?

MAM works with verified partners on the ground to distribute funds to those in need. Our partners are distributed throughout the country to ensure that all people have access to support. They have been thoroughly vetted by our Board of Directors and are well-enmeshed in local civil society networks.

In order to protect our distribution partners in Myanmar we are unable to name our partners publicly.

What will funds be used for?

MAM supports the Civil Disobedience Movement by providing resources to workers who join the general strike. For most, this means food, healthcare and shelter. MAM and its partners provide this aid in kind and in small cash stipends, depending on need, local conditions and accessibility.

How is Mutual Aid Myanmar A Mutual Aid Organization?

MAM faithfully supports the network of mutual aid organizations which have long existed in Myanmar and emerged in response to the coup. MAM in no way leads the movement, but seeks to infuse resources into existing mutual aid networks. While not a mutual aid organization in its own right, MAM does exhibit many similar characteristics; all work is done by volunteers within a horizontal structure; resources are distributed with no expectations of recipients; recipients may remain anonymous; and our direct aid is connected to tactical imperatives established by those on the ground to change the political conditions that created need in the first place.

What percentage of donations go to programs?

All administrative costs needed to operate MAM are covered by board members, and we are an all-volunteer organization. This means that, after credit card processing fees, 100% of every donation goes to programming in Myanmar. Unfortunately, credit card processing fees are unavoidable, but NO donated money goes to operating costs, salaries, etc.

How can I make a donation through a trust or other instrument?
